For the first time in 25 years, Spalding and the NBA are introducing a newly designed Official NBA Game Ball that is the most technologically advanced ball in the market. The new ball, which will be put into play for the 2006-2007 NBA season, is the result of more than 8 years of research and development.  Featuring both a new design and a new material, the new Official NBA Game Ball delivers high performance and enhanced playability to the world’s elite players.  Features include:

NEW CROSS TRAXXION TECHNOLOGY:  

  New to the marketplace and exclusive to the NBA Game Ball.

Cross Traxxion technology includes:

v      New Design:  Interlocking Cross Panel Design: 
The design is comprised of two, cross-shaped panels that interlock rather than the eight oblong panels found on traditional basketballs. The new design: 

o       Allows for more coverage of Spalding’s new material, which enhances grip and control

o       Provides a truer, more consistent bounce (in the traditional design, the channels that run between the eight panels all converge on the sides of the ball creating surface undulations)

v      New Material:  Hydrophilic Moisture Management System: Exclusive micro-fibre composite material spreads moisture evenly across the surface of the ball to promote rapid evaporation and also maintains inherent grip capabilities even as the ball dries.

o       Provides NBA players with exceptional grip and control throughout the course of a game

o       First true moisture management system of its kind; renders moisture a non-factor

o        Offers more consistency in look and quality from ball to ball, city to city, and practice to game than leather

o        Made possible via a special blend of urethanes and elastomers

o        New dual sided graphics feature a prominent NBA logo and Spalding’s Fast S icon

o        NBA logo flanked on the left by the Official Game Ball designation and on the right by NBA Commissioner David Stern’s signature

o        New valve graphics encapsulate NBA Authentic logo/tagline and Spalding’s Fast S icon

o        Additional NBA logo located in the middle of the “cross” design on both sides of the ball.

v      Colour:  The distinctive, orange tone replicates a new leather ball, which was used by the NBA for its first 61 seasons.  This continuity between new and old provides a visual connection to the rich heritage of the former NBA Game Ball and reinforces the authenticity of the unique orange color.
